Arte Suave meaning, “the gentle art” in Portuguese, was created in October 2014 with the primary objective of providing a holistic combination of fitness, health and mindfulness to the practice of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Our philosophy is to provide you with all the tools necessary to enhance your growth as an individual and martial artist.
Arte Suave features:
Up to date modern techniques as they develop
Self defence and expert competition coaching
A great team of teachers as well as regular guest instructors from all over Australia and the world for members.
The base of Arte Suave is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu which requires conditioning, fitness, flexibility and relaxation. Arte Suave provides students with the support they need to achieve their goals in BJJ while enhancing their fitness and fortitude.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is based on a curriculum created by our: Anker Fuglsang, Uroš Čulić, Nic Barker, James Woontoon, Sergio Costabile and Emanuela D'Annibale.
Harnessing their experience and expertise enables us to provide a thorough, finely tuned system of teaching BJJ that can accommodate all levels, sizes and ages.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for Kids (starting from 6 years) is set a little differently to our normal classes. Let by our team of highly skilled instructors, the classes are designed to teach not just Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but also; self-defense, confidence, discipline, listening skills, the ability to work under pressure and motivation as well as to encourage them with healthy competition. This will not only help them in class, but in every day life.
Our affiliation with Arte Suave enables students to cross train with Arte Suave Head Quarters. Our head instructor at Two Kings is Professor Anker Fugslang.
Let's talk and see how Arte Suave builds real skill, strength and mindset, on and off the mats.
As he progressed, Chris discovered a deep desire to teach, driven by his love for sharing knowledge and helping others. His dedication led him to earn his blue belt in December 2020 and, after years of relentless training, his purple belt in June 2023—a milestone that enabled him to officially teach at Arte Suave.
His teaching journey began at the blue belt level, offering private lessons to beginners who couldn't attend fundamentals classes. His calm approach, attention to detail, and commitment to student success quickly made him a sought-after instructor.
Many of his students have excelled in competitions, a testament to his effective coaching and mentorship.
Chris tailors his classes to different skill levels, from fundamentals—covering core concepts and techniques—to advanced training, exploring the finer intricacies of Jiu-Jitsu.
He believes in creating an empowering and supportive environment, helping students reach their full potential, whether for self-defense, fitness, or competition.
A strong advocate for competition, Chris encourages students to embrace the challenge early, as it develops essential skills beyond technique, building resilience and accelerating progress. He credits each competition for shaping his growth and sharpening his abilities
One of his most memorable training moments was trying to pass Coach Emanuela’s guard, only to be effortlessly stopped—even without her using her hands. This humbling experience deepened his respect for Jiu-Jitsu and fueled his determination to improve.
Beyond the mats, Chris, a former tradesman, enjoys cooking, chess, poker, philosophy, psychology, and hands-on projects. His diverse interests enrich his teaching, fostering a holistic approach to learning and self-improvement.
Chris invites others to embrace the Jiu-Jitsu journey, pushing limits and experiencing its profound impact both on and off the mats.
