Shantal Van Moolenbroek
Company Director, Martial Arts Coach and Kyup Project Presenter
Studying Martial arts for 18 years now. Shantal has a wide range of experience and knowledge through the competition scene and in the arts on offer at the gym. Having spent years training and competing in each art she understands truly the arts values, weaknesses and practicality levels.
Shantal is the person to talk to if you’re unsure what martial art is suitable for you. She is a devoted passionate teacher with 10 years teaching/ coaching experience. When not teaching at the gym Shantal works for schools, government and other organisations providing self defence training and confidence building.
Shantal trains daily with an array of different and highly experienced martial artists and champions. She is a big believer in continuous learning and self-improvement and development.

Currently she holds the following ranks: 3rd Dan Hapkido, 4th Dan (Master) Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blue Belt.
Shantal has competed in the following Martial Arts and here are some of her accomplishments.
Taekwondo: Poomsae at a State, Australian and International Level. Winning Gold, Silver and Bronze
ISKA: Held State Titles for Point Sparring for Queensland
BJJ: Competed in many competitions including the Pan Pacs as a blue belt and has won Gold.
Muay Thai 1F 1L - still working on this goal.
Shantal is also working with the KYUP! Project and is a qualified workshop presenter working on domestic violence prevention and education.

Anker Fugslang
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach | Black belt
Anker Fuglsang’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey began in 1997, marking over 26 years of dedication to the art. With limited resources at the time, he sought knowledge globally, becoming a true encyclopedia of Jiu-Jitsu. His early training started in Tasmania under blue belt Billy Burton when no black belts were present in Australia.
In 2003, he began training with Minol Tavares Tutida (now a 5th-degree black belt) under the Oswaldo Fadda lineage, earning his blue belt in 2004.
After moving to Brisbane in 2005, he trained at Garra Jiu Jitsu under Eduardo Diaz of the Roberto Traven lineage.
Anker’s pursuit of knowledge took him worldwide:
2008 – Trained three months in the U.S. under Leo Vieira & Ricardo Feliciano (Checkmat La Habra, CA)
followed by three months in Brazil (Akxe BJJ – Alliance affiliate)
2009 – Returned to Brazil (Akxe & Fightzone – Ricardo Vieira, Checkmat) and was promoted to brown belt upon returning to Australia
2011 – Spent three months in the U.S. at The Jiu-Jitsu League & Atos Long Beach (Prof. Kevin Howell). After this trip, he earned his black belt
2012 – Continued his training in Brazil for six months at Barbosa B9. As a competitor, Anker secured titles including Queensland State Champion (2006, 2007) and Tasmania State Champion (2005)
In 2016, he reconnected with Minol Tavares Tutida and joined Arte Suave, becoming the academy’s first official black belt after its affiliation with Atos ended.
Beyond Jiu-Jitsu, Anker has trained in:
Viet Vo Dao (1993–1997
Hapkido (earning his second black belt in Korea, 2001–2003)
Off the mats, he enjoys languages, computers, Tai Chi, Star Wars, Marvel, comic books, hot chocolate, and Korean fried chicken.
He is also a proud dog dad to his Pomeranian, Misha.
Eric Anthony
Head Muay Thai Coach
Eric has a highly energetic personality who loves Muay Thai. Eric is extremely good with beginners and enjoys working with Fighters. He focuses on the importance of basics and correct technique.
Eric started his martial arts journey in Shotokan Karate which he competed and trained for 11years. During his time in Shotokan Karate he managed to hold Queensland, Australian and Australasian Tittles.
He has trained Muay Thai for 13 years and had a total of 12 Fights. When he was fighting, he held an ISKA Queensland State Tittle Belt.
Eric spent time training in Thailand with his Sister Natasha Anthony. Eric trained his sister alongside Kru Mick Smith out of Maximum Muay Thai.
Now that Eric doesn't fight anymore, he enjoys sharing his passion in helping others follow their dreams and still loves to train and spar alongside his students.
Outside of the gym Eric works full time, loves the outdoors and camping.

Bradley Stock
Childrens Taekwondo Instructor | 3rd Dan Black Belt WT Style Taekwondo
Bradley has been training Taekwondo since he was 6 years old and enjoys the technical and self defence aspects of the martial art. Mr. Bradley enjoys passing his knowledge on and is a strong positive male role model in the gym.
He is calm teacher who is able to break down the technique and encourages children to learn the how and why they are learning particular moves.
Nils Onsager
Hapkido Grand master
Grand Master Nils Onsager 7th Dan has spent years dedicated to his martial art of Hapkido. Continuely learning and growing his self defence curriculum to ensure that it stays practical and realistic with techniques designed to help you get out a potentially dangerous situation.
Originally from the USA he still runs and owns a successful Hapkido School. He now is helping his Australian wife open her own school here (Black Knight Martial Arts Australia).
Mater Nils is affiliated and graded under the US Hapkido Association.
You will find GM Nils Teaching in some of our classes, mentoring not only Shantal but all of our Black Belts to ensure quality technique is being passed on to upcoming students. All gradings will be officiated by him.
Melissa Johnson
Hapkido Master
Master Melissa is a 4th Dan Hapkido Black Belt who has a huge passion for supporting and educating women on the seriousness and need to learn self defence. She loves building confidence through sharing her passion of Hapkido.
She is a wonderful mentor and martial artist. Who is approachable caring and about creating a team environment.

Gabriel Estay
Taekwondo Grand Master
Grand Master Gabriel Estay is a 7th Dan Kukkiwon Taekwondo Black Belt. He is our head instructor and overseer of our Taekwondo program. Master Gabriel mentors Shantal and the Taekwondo team teaching once a month and overseeing our gradings.
Gabriel is Shantal's original Taekwondo instructor who runs his own club in Holland Park.
He is well known for his holistic approach to martial arts focusing on the physical and mental benefits of training. He ensures his students keep the traditional elements of respect and discipline while maintaining a fun learning environment.
He is extremely knowledgeable in the history of Taekwondo and the meanings and Korean language associated with practicing it.
He brakes down technique to help students understand what they area doing and why they are learning it.
Natasha Anthony
Muay Thai Coach
Natasha Anthony joins our coaching team after taking a break to start her little family. Natasha has earned 3 ISKA Title belts during her years in the ring.
Now that Natasha is back on the floor training again she hopes to help encourage and mentor other females to take up Muay Thai.
Dylan Livngstone
Assistant Coach
Dylan is a versatile martial artist and support Instructor to both Shantal and Eric. Working in both Hapkido and Muay Thai children’s classes he is passing on his extensive competition knowledge and mentoring the next generation.
Dylan has won State and National Championships is Taekwondo Fighting. Since he was 6 years old.
He moved into ISKA lite kickboxing and point sparring where he made it to the World Championships.
Now Dylan is setting his goals higher and is expanding his training in Muay Thai and has a goal set on having a ring fight.
Dylan trained 5-6 days a week since joining our club.
Another worthy note is that Dylan is the first and so far only student to obtain both a Black Belt in Hapkido and Taekwondo at our club.
Dylan is a 1st Dan Hapkido Black Belt and a 2nd Dan Taekwondo Black Belt
Chris Brisbane
Adults & Kids Coach | Purple Belt
Chris Brisbane began his martial arts journey in 2018, seeking personal growth and new challenges. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu quickly became his passion, blending physical skill, mental sharpness, and continuous self-improvement.
As he progressed, Chris discovered a deep desire to teach, driven by his love for sharing knowledge and helping others. His dedication led him to earn his blue belt in December 2020 and, after years of relentless training, his purple belt in June 2023—a milestone that enabled him to officially teach at Arte Suave.
His teaching journey began at the blue belt level, offering private lessons to beginners who couldn't attend fundamentals classes. His calm approach, attention to detail, and commitment to student success quickly made him a sought-after instructor.
Many of his students have excelled in competitions, a testament to his effective coaching and mentorship.
Chris tailors his classes to different skill levels, from fundamentals—covering core concepts and techniques—to advanced training, exploring the finer intricacies of Jiu-Jitsu.
He believes in creating an empowering and supportive environment, helping students reach their full potential, whether for self-defense, fitness, or competition.
A strong advocate for competition, Chris encourages students to embrace the challenge early, as it develops essential skills beyond technique, building resilience and accelerating progress. He credits each competition for shaping his growth and sharpening his abilities
One of his most memorable training moments was trying to pass Coach Emanuela’s guard, only to be effortlessly stopped—even without her using her hands. This humbling experience deepened his respect for Jiu-Jitsu and fueled his determination to improve.
Beyond the mats, Chris, a former tradesman, enjoys cooking, chess, poker, philosophy, psychology, and hands-on projects. His diverse interests enrich his teaching, fostering a holistic approach to learning and self-improvement.
Chris invites others to embrace the Jiu-Jitsu journey, pushing limits and experiencing its profound impact both on and off the mats.
