Anker Fuglsang Promoting Coach | Black Belt 3rd Degree Anker Fuglsang’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey began in 1997, marking over 26 years of dedication to the art. With limited resources at the time, he sought knowledge globally, becoming a true encyclopedia of Jiu-Jitsu. His early training started in Tasmania under blue belt Billy Burton when no black belts were present in Australia. In 2003, he began training with Minol Tavares Tutida (now a 5th-degree black belt) under the Oswaldo Fadda lineage, earning his blue belt in 2004. After moving to Brisbane in 2005, he trained at Garra Jiu Jitsu under Eduardo Diaz of the Roberto Traven lineage. Anker’s pursuit of knowledge took him worldwide: • 2008 – Trained three months in the U.S. under Leo Vieira & Ricardo Feliciano (Checkmat La Habra, CA), followed by three months in Brazil (Akxe BJJ – Alliance affiliate). • 2009 – Returned to Brazil (Akxe & Fightzone – Ricardo Vieira, Checkmat) and was promoted to brown belt upon returning to Australia. • 2011 – Spent three months in the U.S. at The Jiu-Jitsu League & Atos Long Beach (Prof. Kevin Howell). After this trip, he earned his black belt. • 2012 – Continued his training in Brazil for six months at Barbosa B9. As a competitor, Anker secured titles including Queensland State Champion (2006, 2007) and Tasmania State Champion (2005). In 2016, he reconnected with Minol Tavares Tutida and joined Arte Suave, becoming the academy’s first official black belt after its affiliation with Atos ended. Beyond Jiu-Jitsu, Anker has trained in Viet Vo Dao (1993–1997) and Hapkido (earning his second black belt in Korea, 2001–2003). Off the mats, he enjoys languages, computers, Tai Chi, Star Wars, Marvel, comic books, hot chocolate, and Korean fried chicken. He is also a proud dog dad to his Pomeranian, Misha.
